Eternal Worrier !!!

Have you come across them? I guess most of the mom's fall in this category and mine leads the flock!! I think they just loves to worry about anything and everything. Mine even goes to the extend that if she doesn't get anything she just creates something and worries about that imaginary problem.. If I'm little late for the train she starts worrying that I will miss the train. Btw late means I left 55 mins before than the recommended 1 hr (and the dist bn my house and railway station is just 1.5 km that can be covered in less than 10 mins).. I have an endless list like this.. Here is the latest..

Conversation that happened yesterday.
Me : Amma I'll be going to Chennai on Sunday. Will be back on Monday.
Amma : Chennai?
Me : Yes
(Worrying starts)
Amma : Why do you have to go? How will you go? Will there be anyone to help? .....
(I don't remember all the questions now)
Me : I don't have the details yet. Will call you once I get it.

Today early morning.
(She wouldn't have slept for sure)
Amma : Are you really going to Chennai?
Me (wondering whether I missed telling her) : Yes. My tickets are confirmed.
Amma : Will someone be there to help?
Me : My Finnish counterparts will also be there. But they are driving down and is staying in a different hotel. I didn't get bookings in that hotel.
Amma : That means you are traveling and staying alone?
Me : What is the problem? I have the tickets and hotel booked. Pick up and drop from airport is also arranged.
Amma : How will you know who is going to come to pick you up?
Me : It will be a cab of course and it's arranged by the office travel agent.
Amma : But what if you get into a wrong cab? Chennai is a bad place. Not safe. Someone else can come and pick you. You don't know the place at all.. How will you know that they are taking you to the correct place?
Me : Ammaaaa this is not the first time I am traveling.
Amma : It's not like how you have travel alone abroad. Nor like how you travel around with friends for trips..
(and the worrying continues with things like how will you eat? , How will you stay alone in the hotel? etc etc. )

OMG I never imagined a simple client visit can get this complicated. I know she is not going to sleep till I'm back on Monday! Now if you thought this is only for cases where I'm traveling alone.. Sorry you are mistaken.. There will be umpteen reasons for others as well - language , food, terrorists, climate , new place , new people,..
What to do? Any remedies?

PS: There are lots of people who asked me why I was missing in action. There was no specific reason. Just didn't feel like writing :) May be that's blogger's block.( i.e If having a blog makes me a blogger :D)

Haha :)
you have expressed it nicely....
Its the same case everywhere...
Thats why most of the times, I say things to my amma once 50% of it is over. Will think sometimes, why to unnecessarily make them tension (otherwise also they will find a reason to get tensioned)

:-P no difference with my mom too..
Some more additions are also there. If I tell going with so n so grp of ppl, she would ask me to give any of their's phone number so that she can contact me if my mobile is not reachable.. :)

@ Resma : Yeh I also do it whenever I think the subject is worth worrying. This I told her as a passing comment. Not in my wildest dreams I thought that this is something worth worrying :(

@ Sadhana : Luckily she trusts my mobile :) But yeh group of people is also a cause of worry or her. If it is not my usual gang or if it is some group of people whom she haven't met, worrying starts :)

i guess these question are asked to guys too..as you said all moms are alike..in my case i apparently fight about it telling her that am not in school anymore..;-P

But i think we feel the same..I was really worried when my parents travelled abroad for the first time to visit me..

It s the case with all moms! But sometimes when they come up with significant matters in the process of worrying which we tend to overlook , you are rendered speechless and feel like a complete idiot. I feel sometimes their worrying helps too...
Whenever I travel alone I always call up mom before leaving, her worrying substitutes a check-list :P.
This post sounds so much like what my mom does!
Good to see you back :)

I have a hell of a lot more to add to this! I mean yes, I can easily identify with this EW and boy I am sure my Mom will beat all EWs!
Good to see you back dear :-)

At least your mom's worry about your Chennai trip cleared the blogger's block. :-)

welcome backkkk!!! :)

now, on the post, know what, my Papa and Mummy both take turns in playing EWs.. they have their own specific areas of concern.
and honey, there's only one way to deal with it, just play along. and be patient.. difficult? In trying situations like that, I try telling myself how patient they must've been with us while teaching us our ABCDs..
These days the trick doesn't work so effectively either, so I try telling myself that a couple of times.. ok, sometimes 3 times. :P but hey, mind you, it works! :D

hey dhanya..

loong time....yes we all face the same thing....i was once sitting in a meeting (between both my bosses) in the same city as i live and i received around 9 missed calls from folks because the meeting went beyond the 2 hrs that i told them it MIGHT take..(the meeting was for 6 hrs and my father missed the point tht i was there with my bosses).....
but sometimes when they dont worry i worry wondering why they dont worry!!!

@ Hari Krishnan : I don't think it's just a female thingy. But yeh I agree that it's more for us :)
And thanks a lot for stopping by..

@ Mathew : Yeh I know guys are not spared either. But I guess with guys the questions will be less or as you said you might fight back :)
And yes we all will have concerns, but I was more talking about unnecessary worries - like "What if you forget to bolt the door" types. Anything in excess is not good :)

@ jj : Yeh I know it's the same everywhere. But sometimes I feel she just takes away the confidence that I have. When she worries, I'll also become restless.. :(

@ Sandeep : wow then I guess you are a lucky winner :)
n writing part - nothing to say :P

@ Ms Cris : ha ha I thought my mom will be the leader. Now I know she has many close contenders :P

@ Bindhu : Yeh that's true :)

@ Nikhil Narayanan : It's good to know that there are others also in the same boat :)

@ senseye : Yeh probably.. Who knows.. :)

@ Impressionist : Yeh now I know :)

@ usha : My dad used to be cool, but amma will make sure she has covered all areas ;) Yeh most of the times I just listen to everything silently n then she worries that I'm not fighting back :P

@ Ann : That was kind of extreme. I remember during my SSLC she got hyper worrying that I'll fail as she thought I was not studying anything(which was kind of true). She was relieved only after the results came and I scored 92%. N guess what - I never had to worry why she is not worrying :P

Its the same for guys also..... :)
